In my opinion, Scotland is a country that you should definitely visit. In Edinburgh, there are beautiful old buildings to visit along the Royal Mile. Edinburgh Castle at the end of the Royal Mile rounds off the experience. The landscape is also fantastic. You can see this especially from Arthur's Seat. Another insider tip is the Kelpies in Falkirk. Two giant horse heads as a work of art in a park.

Highligts

An absolute highlight is the hike up Arthur's Seat mountain. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with a fantastic view.

Hidden gems

Dean Village, just outside Edinburgh city center, offers a tranquil atmosphere and picturesque views.

Destination recommendation

With its impressive landscapes and cities, Scotland has something for everyone.

We spent a good two weeks in Scotland last summer in August. We flew from Germany to Glasgow and spent our first night there before starting our backpacker trip on the West Highland Way. The two of us traveled with a large and a small backpack, had our tent with us and hiked from Drymen Camping to Glencoe Mountain Resort. It was exhausting and beautiful. The stretch along Loch Lomond in particular was incredible. You're not allowed to wild camp here because it's a nature reserve. As a result, we spent the night in the garden of the Bunkhouse in Inversnaid. This is a converted church! The service and the food were highly recommended. We then drove to Fort Williams and from there on to the Isle of Skye. We used the bus service for this, which allowed us to travel as much as we wanted on five days within 10 days. This was very worthwhile. On Skye, we hiked from Sligarchan to the Fairy Pools. However, we were glad to be able to stay in a hostel here as the weather had deteriorated considerably. We also had to leave early due to the storm and rain. We couldn't camp on Skye as planned. So we visited the cities of Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh instead. Once again, the bus ticket was more than worth it.

Highligts

We walked the West Highland Trail. And are in Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival.

Hidden gems

Inversnaid Bunkhouse and Bistro in a former church on Loch Lomond
